Type G (BS 1363) Power Plug
Also known as the British 3-pin.
About Type G (BS 1363)
Type G is the British BS 1363 standard, introduced in 1947 to replace the older BS 546 system. The plug has three rectangular pins — live and neutral both 4 × 6.35 mm, with a longer ground pin (4 × 7.94 mm) at the top — and uniquely incorporates a cartridge fuse (typically 3 A or 13 A) inside the plug body itself.
The fuse is a defining safety feature: UK ring-main circuits run at a higher current rating than continental radial circuits, and per-appliance fusing in the plug prevents cord-overload fires. The plug is rated 13 A at 250 V.
Type G is standard in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and across many former British territories in Africa and the Middle East. The plug is bulky and only inserts one way (polarised); the ground pin also unlocks shutters over the live and neutral holes, preventing object insertion.
