Type A (NEMA 1-15) Power Plug
Also known as the North American flat 2-pin.
About Type A (NEMA 1-15)
Type A is the two-pin ungrounded plug standardised by NEMA 1-15 in North America and JIS C 8303 in Japan. Both blades are 1.5 mm thick and ~16 mm long; on US plugs the neutral blade is wider than the live blade for polarisation, while Japanese Type A is symmetrical and not polarised.
The plug carries 15 A at 120 V (100 V at 50/60 Hz in Japan). It has no earth pin and is not legal for installation on new outlets in the US since the 1962 NEC, but remains the dominant socket form for ungrounded appliances throughout the Americas and Japan.
Travelers from Type A regions visiting Type C/F countries will need a North-America-to-Europe adapter; visitors from elsewhere arriving in a Type A country usually need a flat-blade adapter and may also need a step-down voltage converter if their device is not dual-voltage (120 V vs 220-240 V).
