Type I (AS/NZS 3112) Power Plug
Also known as the Australian.
About Type I (AS/NZS 3112)
Type I is the Australian AS/NZS 3112 standard. Two flat pins are angled at 30 degrees from vertical, forming an inverted V; the grounded variant adds a third vertical flat pin below the V. The plug carries 10 A at 240 V in Australia, 15 A in heavier industrial variants.
Despite originating in Australia, the geometry was adopted (with minor variations) in China as GB 1002, in Argentina as IRAM 2073, and across most South Pacific islands. The Argentinian variant inverts the live/neutral wiring — equipment from Argentina plugged into an Australian socket will work but with live and neutral swapped.
Type I sockets often include shutters that only open when the angled pins press against them; this is the same insertion-safety logic used by Type G. The plug is polarised and orientation-locked.
