Type N (NBR 14136) Power Plug
Also known as the Brazilian.
About Type N (NBR 14136)
Type N is the Brazilian NBR 14136 standard, adopted nationally in 2010. Three 4.0 mm or 4.8 mm round pins are arranged in a triangular pattern similar to Type J but with different spacing — the plug accepts the Type C Europlug as a sub-form because the live/neutral spacing matches.
Brazil moved to Type N to consolidate its previously chaotic plug landscape (Type A, Type C, Type I, and several non-standard variants were all in use). The 4.0 mm and 4.8 mm pin variants distinguish 10 A and 20 A current ratings.
South Africa adopted Type N alongside Type M for new installations starting 2013, with the SABS 164-2 standard. The plug is polarised and the socket is recessed for safety.
